We’re trying something new, Pizza & Politics. Our August 3 meeting will be at the Riley Tavern which is a brand-new place for us. Tuesdays are their pizza night $20 for all the pizza you can eat and two drink tokens.
Their pizza has been nominated for best pizza in the annual Madison.com contest. TripAdvisor.com says this about the Riley Tavern “The Riley Tavern is hidden away where the locals can enjoy a "neighborhood " bar, but visitors will find warm and welcoming. This isn't a wine bar, upscale cocktail club or tablecloth kind of place.” It's our kind of place.
The Riley Tavern is an iconic Dane County location. We are not sure when it first opened, but a WWII Navy veteran bought it in 1946 and managed it the rest of his life. There has been a couple of owners since and it was purchased by new owners in 2019. Kate and her husband also own the Silver Dollar Tavern in Madison. They recently opened a loft area for events.

One downside is the loft is not handicapped accessible, there is a set of stairs to climb. The loft is a room with three enclosed sides, so we are on rain or shine. Close by parking may be a bit limited also, so come early if you can. We have invited the Green County Republicans to join us for this. Mark Jefferson, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin is our featured speaker. Other speakers are Charity Barry and Peter Theron who are both exploring a run for the 2nd Congressional District and John Aagaard, former candidate for the Springfield County Board.
