Liberty Pole Hill Park (elevation 1,100 ft) has a historical connection to the American Civil War. "The story of Liberty Pole Park starts about the time of the Civil War (1861-1865). After the first effective military draft was signed into law on March 3, 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln, a log cabin was erected on the hill for the purpose of enlisting soldiers and a site for important meetings. It was at this site that area volunteers joined together and marched down to Janesville in Rock County to be sworn into the Union Army. The park was to be in their honor." Read More
There will be a member of the Col. Hans C. Heg Camp #15 - Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War based out of the Wind Lake/Norway that will give a very brief presentation on the history of Liberty Pole Park as a Civil War encampment.
Jeff Klett, candidate for the 45th Assembly District will be speaking. Jeff is the brother of former Secretary of Tourism Stephanie Klett.
